Spring means GATORS!

The gators are back at the bayhouse. That means we are in full discussions about building a fence for the dogs!

More great sunsets

All I can say is WOW! This is why sunset is an event at the bayhouse!

Great weekend of fishing

We had a great weekend of fishing a couple of weeks ago. Morgan and Tyler caught these!

Lovely

Another great sunset at the bay!

Asparagus!!!

I am trying a new vegetable this year in my garden. I found some asparagus roots at Home Depot on one of our latest shopping trips. We eat asparagus every week and I would love to be able to say that I grew my own so I bought some. They are actually growing! Asparagus is a three year minimum crop. The roots that I bought are 2 years old so next spring I should be able to have my first harvest. This is what they look like right now.

First flowers of spring

The rose was my first to bloom this spring. The sunflower came up volunteer under my birdfeeders. I have a whole crop of sunflowers getting ready to bloom!

Doodie Calls

I'll end today with this picture. Mike came home last week with a special porta-potty request. A couple of ladies in the neighborhood own a landscaping business and wanted a specialty can for their use at their business. We now offer specialty doodie cans!

Raised Beds are the Best

This is my new/growing garden. I plant something new in it almost every day. The log that is in the front was a tree that died last year and Mike cut it down for firewood, and decided to cut it like one that I had found on Pinterest. If you aren't on Pinterest, you should be. You can find great ideas on that website! I bought some of the plants for the log today but didn't want to plant them in the wind today.

Yummy Carrots

Planted some carrot seeds in the garden in early fall and went to check on them one day and decided to pull one up and this was under there. Ended up with a whole mess of them and they were delicious!

Great View

Just really like this picture so I thought I'd share. It was taken from the upper porch at the bayhouse.

Christmas Kayaks

We bought each other kayaks for Christmas. We have only had one really great day since then that we were able to try them out. It was so awesome. Check out the water....the water was so clear all winter long that the fish wouldn't even bite cause they could see us :))).

Favorite sunsets from the bay last summer/fall

These were two of my favorites. I probably have 200 more awesome sunset pictures. We have actually turned sunset into an event when we are at the bay.

It's been too long

Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since I've updated my blog. Such a busy summer/fall/winter. I am ready to get back into this so I will start by telling what I have been working on currently. I am back into my vegetable garden. Mike and I installed raised beds last year and put fresh compost in them and proceeded to kill everything that didn't die from the drought. I was determined and convinced that the compost was too hot and would be just right for a fall garden and I was right. I have grown broccoli, cauliflower, collards, enough beets to can 16 pints, cabbage, green onions, spinach, and a whole bed of lettuce varieties. With the mild winter, I was able to play in the garden all winter.

I am so excited about my spring garden. I planted potatoes on ground hog day. They started popping through today. I have two tomato plants that I planted a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday the patio tomato had blooms forming.....so exciting. I planted more spinach today, I think it will grow off before it gets too hot.

I planted a bunch of tomato and pepper seeds and am trying to get them sturdy enough for transplanting. I said I would never do this again, but I am. I bought a grow light for them this week.

Mike went to Home Depot this week and couldn't pass up the grape vines, so now we are building a fence and putting in a grape and berry orchard. We also planted 2 peach trees, 2 satsuma oranges, and a fig tree. I also found some asparagus roots that I am going to try out. That is a long term project as it takes 2 years to get the goods.
